SURREAL SALOON - 2004/05 - Heart's Tongue organised a series of Performance Nights to offer a platform for experimental works. These regular events were sometimes themed: "Man's Night" or Women's Night", "Sprite Night" or Hermaphrodite Nighty". Later they evolved to "Alchemical /Experimental Nights" and finally "Surreal Saloon" ... a space for the unusual, absurd, bizarre, DaDa, Surreal, a club for Heart's Tongue Members and local performers. The Performance Club is currently resting but will emerge again ... So watch this space!

Heart's Tongue hosted a benefit gig at the Exeter Phoenix on Sunday 19th November. The Grandmaster of Reggae DJ Derek and the enigmatic DJ Sketchy spun sweet reggae and ska tunes - an evening of serious bumping and grinding.

61, yes! 64 years old (going on 16, but ageless: timeless, a veteran) ex-accountant Bristol based DJ Derek (sweet memory sounds) was introduced to Reggae and Ska music as it evolved back in the 60s through the Jamaican community and he ended up being a predominantly white man on a black man's dance scene back in the 60s and 70s. He mixes Jamaican patois and black music with very 'English' loves of real ale and quite formal wear; suited, or cardigan and tie being his favoured attire. He has a collection of 32,000 records.
